What people say

"It has an area of 3.5 ha, divided by two trays with a difference in level of 6.8 m between them. The Garden's architecture follows Renaissance models in terraces carved into the hillside, with three fundamental elements, carved stone, plants and water in fountains and lakes. However, the ornaments in the garden have markedly Baroque influences (namely the central fountain and the stairs (side and central). The garden has two types of use: on the upper deck the botanical collection and on the lower deck the ornamental walkway garden with boxwood and designed according to the rules of the recreational garden. There is also a «garden of aromas» with aromatic and medicinal plants, designed for blind people and the arboreal. In its surrounding area you will find the Ajuda Palace, the Tropical Agricultural Garden-Museum, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Cultural Center and the Belém Tower."

"It’s got character – overgrown and unkempt in all the right ways. You’ll see 250 year-old plants and trees from Asia and Africa that are downright Dr. Seussian. There are fountains, geometric walking paths and benches to take it all in."
"Enjoy a beautiful natural scenery here, at the Botanical garden of the palace. The view is quite nice, better to come in spring, summer though to enjoy it more."
