Malá Strana
What people say
Wiktoria Górska-Kijanka
"Founded by King Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1257, Malá Strana (the Lesser Town) was established as a royal town by merging several communities near Prague Castle. In the late 14th century, Charles IV expanded it with the Hunger Wall for added defense. The Hussites set fire to the town between 1419 and 1420, and another fire in 1541 caused severe damage, claiming fifty lives. After this, the town was rebuilt with a Renaissance style, including many new aristocratic palaces."
