"Opened in 1885, it has a rich history connected to music and the arts. The building was designed by architect Josef Zítek and his student Josef Schulz and was inaugurated on February 8, 1885, in the presence of Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria, after whom the building is named. Since 1946, the Rudolfinum has been home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras in the country. It also houses the Galerie Rudolfinum, which showcases contemporary art exhibitions. Dvořák Hall, the Rudolfinum's largest music auditorium, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and serves as one of the primary venues for the Prague Spring International Music Festival, held annually in May and June. Notably, on January 4, 1896, the hall hosted its inaugural concert conducted by Antonín Dvořák, marking the beginning of its legacy in concert music. Between 1919 and 1939, during the First Czechoslovak Republic, the Rudolfinum served as the seat of the Czechoslovak parliament, further cementing its importance in the nation’s history.
