What people say

"Marble Church, as it is known, (in Danish: Frederiks Kirke) or Marmorkirken is a large church in the center of Copenhagen, Denmark. The Marmorkirken was designed by architect Nicolai Eigtved in 1740 and was intended to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the first coronation of a member of the House of Oldenburg. The Marble Church has the largest dome of any church in Scandinavia at 31 meters. The dome is believed to be inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The foundation stone was laid on October 31, 1749 by King Frederick V, but construction was halted due to budget cuts. Furthermore, Eigtved's death in 1754 caused the original plans for the church to be discarded in 1770 by Johann Friedrich Struensee. Work remained at a standstill, and despite efforts to restart construction, the structure remained in ruins for almost 150 years. Interior of the Marmorkirken The current church, designed by Ferdinand Meldahl, was financed by industrialist Carl Frederik Tietgen. The church was inaugurated on August 19, 1894. The inscription is engraved on the portico of the temple: HERRENS ORD BLIVER EVINDELIG (which in English means But the word of the Lord stands forever. - 1 Peter 1:25)."
"You won’t want to miss this monumental church when in København. All around the outside, it is decorated with sculptures of Danish theologians and clergy. Inside the church are paintings of the apostles and many other beautiful details. Did you know that Denmark is one of the few countries (in Europe) that still has a Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs (i.e. Religion)? This means that state and church aren’t entirely seperated in Denmark. Like most churches, Frederik’s Church, nicknamed the Marble Church, is free to enter."
"Frederiks Kirke, also known as Marmorkirken or Marble Church, is one of the most beautiful churches in Copenhagen and is located right in front of Amalienborg Palace. It is the best example of Baroque architecture in Copenhagen and is inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican . It's not for nothing that it's Danes' favorite church for getting married! 👣How to get there: reachable on foot From Amalienborg (250m,4min). Metro stop: Marmorkirken, lines M3 and M4. 🎟️Ticket cost: free"
