Betancuria

The historic town of Betancuria located in the interior of Fuerteventura is the former capital of the island. It holds significant cultural and historical importance on the island and is known for its charming architecture and cultural landmarks. 

The town is characterized by its traditional Canarian architecture, with white-washed buildings and re-roofed houses that create a picturesque setting. Narrow streets, cobbled pathways and quaint squares contribute to the town's old-world charm.  

Travel Tip:
 
1. The Church of Santa Maria de Betancuria, originally built in the 15th century, is a significant historical and architectural landmark. It houses religious artifacts and serves as a reminder of the town's colonial past. 

2. Casa Santa Maria is a historic house that has been converted into a museum and showcases a variety of exhibits that highlight the cultural and historical heritage of the island.
