"If you’re planning a road trip through the Dolomites, then you have to tackle some of the incredible mountain passes scattered throughout the region.
Nestled between the Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri, Passo Giau connects Cortina d’Ampezzo with Selva di Cadore, and is perhaps the most beautiful mountain pass in the Dolomites.
The 2,236m pass winds through dense larch forests and a high alpine plateau, with spectacular views amongst the surrounding peaks, making it outrageously picturesque. You must stop at the top, and talk a short walk into the pastures, or alternatively, start a longer hike into the mountains. "

"You can either make a loop around Ra Gusela (the mountain in the picture) & Cinque Torri.
Round trip: 8km in total, around 3-4h (not including breaks), 400m of the elevation gain.
Or try something new! There are two easy via ferratas in the area as an alternative to the regular hike (Via Ferrata Nuvolau & Averau).
If you're interested in via ferratas, let me know!"

"This beautiful location is a great first stop on your way to the Dolomites. A short detour but worth it in my opinion. Get out, take photos, and enjoy the road trip to Cortina. Since it’s your first day you will probably be tired so arrive in Cortina, relax, have some dinner in town, and get some rest for the remainder of the trip."
