What people say

"The third highest point in Portugal is located on the island of Madeira. It is, of course, an iconic place, whose views enjoy a singular breadth. Located at an altitude of 1862 meters, Pico Ruivo da Madeira is a place to visit with some time reserved for contemplation. Located in the municipality of Santana, from this peak it is possible to see a multitude of different places. For example, you can see the picturesque parish of Curral das Freiras, surrounded by green mountains, the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, the various finds in Santana or the impressive depth of the Ribeira Grande and São Jorge valley. On days with excellent visibility, from Pico Ruivo da Madeira it is still possible to glimpse the island of Porto Santo and the group of Desertas Islands. As this is the highest point in the archipelago, its flora consists mainly of high-altitude heather. It is, however, the rock formations of monumental proportions (which frequently rise above the clouds) that dominate the landscape of Pico Ruivo da Madeira. Furthermore, birds such as the bis-bis (Regulus ignicapus madeirensis), the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) or the common linnet (Linaria cannabina) can often be found here. Accessible on foot, via Vereda do Pico Ruivo (PR 1.2), a walk of around 45 minutes, or from Pico Areeiro, following PR 1.1."
