"Get ready for one of the most scenic train rides of your life! The round trip ticket is pricey but the views of the Matterhorn along the way are absolute worth it! We took the earliest train up possible to try and catch the sunrise at Riffelsee and despite the packed train, there were hardly any others up there! You can alternatively take the train up to Gornergrat all the way and hit Riffelsee on your way down. Just make sure to select the proper ticket when you’re buying them based on your route!"

"This version starts higher up at the Gornergrat station and hikes down to the Riffelsee. You can catch the train here or keep hiking down to Riffelberg or Riffelalp. The longest version is from Gornergrat to Riffelalp, almost 10km and about 3 hours of walking. If your group has enough energy, I think this the best hike in this area."

"Gornergrat lies in an area called the Valais, several kilometers east of Zermatt. To get here, you will ride the Gornergrat Bahn, the highest open air railway in Europe. The train operates 365 days per year and it takes 33 minutes to travel from Zermatt to Gornergrat."
