What people say

"The city's main attraction, the Munich Christmas Market (Münchner Christkindlmarkt), graces the Marienplatz with its grandeur. Towering Christmas trees, adorned with twinkling lights, frame the iconic Glockenspiel, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for your holiday photos. As you wander through the market, the scent of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine fills the air, enticing you to savor Bavarian specialties like sausages and gingerbread. For a more intimate experience, explore the charming medieval market at Wittelsbacherplatz, where vendors in period attire offer handcrafted gifts and hearty Bavarian dishes. Don't miss the Kripperlmarkt, dedicated to nativity scenes, or the Tollwood Winter Festival with its multicultural flair. The Munich Christmas Market, or Münchner Christkindlmarkt, will be open from November 27 to December 24, 2023 from 12-8pm. There are over 10 Christmas markets across the city of Munich. "
"During the Middle Ages, markets and tournaments were held in the Marienplatz, which has been Munich’s main central town square since 1158. Don’t be confused, the epic gothic building in front of you is not a church but in fact the city hall. The Glockenspiel within the tower of the new city hall was inspired by those tournaments held long ago. Though….it often breaks down unfortunately. Whether it works or not though, it always draws a large noon crowd. Three weeks before Christmas Day, the whole square is turned into a Christmas wonderland as Munich premiere Christkindlmarkt. Local Tip: I wouldn’t go to dinner here, personally, as I find the food to be a bit expensive for what you get. There are better deals within the city. However, grabbing a coffee, beer, or aperol spritz and sitting outside in this amazing town square? Yeah, I still do that myself at least once a month. "
"The Munich Christkindlemarkt is a convenient 15 minute walk from the Residenz Christmas Village. This short walk is a great way to see a bit more of the city of Munich along the way! Because this is Munich’s main market, prepare yourself for the crowds – this is the iconic one that everyone has come to see. Here you can peruse the food booths with the epic backdrop of the New Town Hall. You can find all of the German Christmas classics here like carolers and other live entertainment periodically throughout the day at this market. It’s what makes the crowds at this market worth it! Open Dates: November 25 to December 24 2024"
