Trieste, una città italiana che in sé racchiude tutto il fascino dell’architettura e dell’arte austro - ungarico. La città sorge sull’omonimo golfo, e si affaccia sul confine con la Slovenia. Rappresenta da secoli un ponte tra l'Europa centrale e quella meridionale, mescolando caratteri mediterranei, mitteleuropei e slavi. Il territorio cittadino è occupato prevalentemente da un pendio collinare che cresce di altitudine fino a diventare terreno montuoso. La città è a stretto contatto con il territorio del Carso, regione storica, un altopiano roccioso calcareo che si estende tra la provincia di Gorizia e Trieste, Slovenia e Croazia, noto storicamente per essere stato teatro di violente battaglie durante la prima guerra mondiale, tra le truppe italiane e quelle austro - ungariche.
