Kauai is often a favorite of the Hawaiian islands, given its range in landscape, geography and activities. Outside of the capital of Līhue, there are four main regions - the East Side, the North Shore, the South Shore and the West Side. This guide will include activities and recommendations for the East, North and South. While the regions are easy to travel between, we recommend staying on the island for at least one week to really explore them all.

The island of Kauai may be small, but it has a lot packed into it. Quieter and more laid back, this island offers some prime relaxation, some great natural beauty, and a variety of unique spots to eat. Divided into 3 areas with a ring road, you'll likely find yourself based in the north (ranier), east (windier) or south (sunnier). I've broken these spots into those 3 sections.

I went to Kauai with my mom and sister for Mother's Day for a 4 day trip. I highly recommend renting a vehicle so you can see all the beautiful scenery Kauai has to offer. We drove through a tunnel of trees, overlooked the Waimea Canyon, and got to see a picturesque view (main photo) of several waterfalls in the distance.
