What people say

"Just a few meters from Córdoba City Hall is the largest and most important square in the city: Plaza de la Corredera. It is believed that it is built on the remains of the ancient Roman circus. During the Middle Ages, this space was used as a scene of Inquisition executions and a prison. It is said that the executioner himself lived in the square in case there was any “emergency.” Years later, the space was converted into a bullring until the architect Antonio Ramos completely modified it in the 17th century and gave the Plaza de la Corredera its current appearance. At the end of the 19th century, the square was used to locate the most important market in Córdoba. Today, the Plaza de la Corredera is home to numerous cafes and cocktail bars, as well as the scene of important Córdoba festivities such as the White Night of Flamenco. The square's rectangular shape and arched porticos are characteristic of Castilian plazas, which which makes the Plaza de la Corredera the only one of its kind in Andalusia. The entire square has a uniform architecture except for two buildings: the old Town Hall and the Casa de Doña Jacinta, original buildings from the 16th century."
