"Neuschwanstein Castle was a loooong-term bucket list item I finally got to check off in June of 2023. It did not disappoint. If you are unable or unwilling to walk uphill for about 20 minutes, make sure you are aware of the bus times to go up the hill. I walked up on a fairly warm day, but it was worth it for the lookout stops. It is highly highly recommended to purchase tickets for the castle ahead of time. You do not want to miss your ticket time, so leave plenty of time to get to the top whether you choose walking or a bus. In addition to touring the castle and looking out on the terrace, you can view the castle from the Marienbrücke (a bridge, check the next activity). All in all, this is 1000% worth a day trip from Munich. Sometimes, the very touristy spots are not worth the hype, but this one absolutely is (and I will go to the mat on that one). NOTE: Please be careful at the lookouts here. Do not go off the designated pathways and lookout spots. It can be very dangerous to wander around the mountain. "

"If you take a bus... After alighting at the bus stop in Schwangau, there will be an uphill 30mins walk from the bus stop to the entrance of Neuschwanstein Castle. After an approx. 15 mins of walking from the bus stop, you will see a sign to get to Mary's bridge. This is the viewpoint of the Neuschwanstein castle. Apart from walking up to the castle, you can also take a 20mins horse carriage ride, which run the whole year round. Carriage Fare: €8 Uphill trip. €4 Downhill trip (you can pay directly to the horse carriage driver) Note: The horse carriages do not drive directly to the main entrance of the Neuschwanstein castle. You would need to walk for about 15mins uphill from the carriage stop to the entrance of the castle. "

"The castle lies high above the town of Schwangau, which is also home to the Hohenschwangau Castle (Ludwig II’s childhood home.) Watch my video for all the details and to see what it all looks like but here's the gist. For a small fee you can take the shuttle bus up to the Marionbrucke bridge. You won't want to miss the epic views and it will save you a 40 minute walk uphill. Then you'll walk the scenic pathway to the castle itself. To go inside you must make a tour reservation ahead of time -- but even if you don't get to go inside it's still a totally worthwhile adventure. "
