Step 2: Getting to Schwangau from Füssen HBF

Get off at Fussen HBF and walk to the Fussen Bahnof bus stop. To get to the bus stop: 1. You will walk into a building once you alight at Fussen station. 2. Walk all the way straight and get out of the building and you will see a bus stop that is right outside. Note: There are also coin operated washrooms nearby for €0.50, so be sure to carry some coins. 3. Cross the narrow street and walk to the bus stop that's on the other side of the street. 4. Take a 10 minute shuttle bus ride (bus no. 73 or 78) to Schwangau, where the castle is located. Bus Fare: €3 Uphill trip. €2 Downhill trip or €3.50 Total for roundtrip (as of May 2023). You can buy your tickets directly from the bus driver (please remember to have exact change!). Note: The bus has no fixed schedule but operates about every 20 minutes. However, the bus will not operate on days where there is ice and snow on the road. Pets are also not allowed in the shuttle bus. Apart from bus, you can also walk from Füssen to Schwangau for about 1hr to enjoy the surrounding views.

Step 3: From Schwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle

If you take a bus... After alighting at the bus stop in Schwangau, there will be an uphill 30mins walk from the bus stop to the entrance of Neuschwanstein Castle. After an approx. 15 mins of walking from the bus stop, you will see a sign to get to Mary's bridge. This is the viewpoint of the Neuschwanstein castle. Apart from walking up to the castle, you can also take a 20mins horse carriage ride, which run the whole year round. Carriage Fare: €8 Uphill trip. €4 Downhill trip (you can pay directly to the horse carriage driver) Note: The horse carriages do not drive directly to the main entrance of the Neuschwanstein castle. You would need to walk for about 15mins uphill from the carriage stop to the entrance of the castle.
