""Don't miss Akrotiri, probably the most important archaeological site in the Cyclades. The city was one of the Aegean Sea's most significant before earthquakes and a volcanic eruption destroyed it in the 17th century BC. The volcanic material preserved the buildings and their content, just like at Pompeii. Akrotiri is a roughly 3,500 year old Minoan town preserved in volcanic ash (like Pompeii) on the southern part of the island. The excavation site is covered by a roofing system, which makes it something that you can comfortably visit no matter what time of year. The ruins, are extremely well preserved. Streets, buildings, stairs and even second floors of buildings are still visible. Visitors can stand in the ruins and look at Minoan pottery and frescoes. - Santorini Dave "

"This place is listed as the "Pompeii of Greece" and it might be but as a visitor attraction it's got a long way to go. It looks like there is a lot of interesting archaeology to be found here but the site is paired with 2 museums on the island and lots of the relics have been moved so you can't see them in situ, which really detracts from the immersive historical experience that the actual Pompeii offers"
"Admission: 6 Euros Enclosed archeological site featuring an excavation of a preserved Bronze age settlement."
