When to go
Greece is best during the summer season months from around April to October. The shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and fall (September to October) offer mild weather and the tourist crowds are more manageable. During these shoulder seasons, Greece unveils its true splendor with blooming landscapes, pleasant temperatures, and a vibrant cultural scene. Exploring historical sites, enjoying outdoor activities, and immersing oneself in the local culture become more enjoyable without the intense summer heat and bustling crowds.
The exception to that rule applies to anyone hoping to spend all day lounging at the beach and enjoying the water. Summer (July to August) attracts beach enthusiasts, and if that's you, it may be worth it despite the heat and crowds.
Winter (November to March) offers a unique perspective, with fewer tourists, but some island destinations may have reduced services. The off-season has its perks in cheaper accommodations and fewer crowds, but you run the risk of limited accommodation availability and poor transportation options for island hopping. Be sure to research available services at your destination before booking anything.
Choosing the ideal time to visit ensures a harmonious blend of favorable weather, cultural richness, and a more authentic Greek adventure. If you're okay with limited beach time (or just don't mind the cold water!) April, May, June, September, & October will be your best bet for both budget and general atmosphere.
