"On your way to/from Landmannalaugar on the gravel road F208 you have to stop by at Bláhylur, a massive crater lake in an absolutely gorgeous setting north of the mountains of the Highlands. It is easy to miss as you have to drive up a small detour, so logging this location in your GPS is advised. PHOTO TIPS Not gonna lie, the best photos I captured here were with the drone. Shooting from the North side of the lake around sunset (10-11pm), high up in the air, one of the best compositions you can get there is with the crater lake in the foreground and the mountains of Landmannalaugar illuminated by the sunset in the background. Alternatively, if you don't have a drone you can climb up the hill on the North side of the lake which will provide you with an elevated spot. "
"A beautiful crater created by a volcanic eruption about 1200 years ago, the gorge is filled with turquoise-colored water. It is one of the most beautiful gorges in Iceland, a MUST-visit destination."
"This crater full of water is an amazing stop, the landscape around it is insanely amazing. *first picture not mine "
