"I had zero expectations visiting the Westman Islands, but I did know that people from here had a very strong identity, and for good reason. The landscape is unlike any other in Iceland, and the approach on the ferry passes iconic "World's Loneliest House" and then enters high cliffs swarming with puffins, gulls, and terns. On the right you will see the beluga whale sanctuary, which you can visit if you're keen. I did not spend enough time here, so I would recommend spending the night in one of the towns local hotels.
Hike the volcano that erupted in the 1970's, eat at one of the many restaurants, hike the other side of the island to Stóraklif (very sketchy climb), or Há (less sketchy) to see puffins perching on a cliff and a view of a lifetime. You can visit Víkin which is a beach, Klauf, an interesting geological formation, and Stórhöfði, a lighthouse. There are endless things to explore here, your entire vacation could probably just be here in the Westman Islands, but at the very least don't cut your time short. "

"Getting here: You have to take a ferry to the island.
Herjólfur sails from Landeyjahöfn to Vestmannaeyjar which is located on the south of Iceland. You can both drive to Landeyjahöfn by a regular car (no 4×4 car is needed) or you can take the bus, if you are travelling from Reykjavik, you can go from the Mjódd ,bus terminal to Landeyjahöfn
The ferry ride takes 35.minutes.
