"Having driven past it many, many times, I've only recently "discovered" this stunning, expansive beach with its crystal clear water.
I have nicknamed the beach around Hukilau Beach Park (not to be confused with Laie Beach Park) "European Beach" because the houses on the hill at the very south end remind me of a coastal village in the Mediterranean.
While it doesn't look like much from the main road, once you put your preconceptions aside, as I did, it's well worth a visit! This fabulous stretch of pristine, white beach is 2 miles long. The north end is Malaekahana Recreation Area Beach, or "Deserted Island Beach" on this board.
This is a wonderful, family fun beach where everyone can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding, stand-up paddle, kayaking, building sand castles or just exploring. On a calm day, it's an idyllic place to spend on Oahu.
The further away from the parking you go, the more space you'll have to yourself - either to the north or south. At the very south end, there is a shallow cove area with a small volcanic rock outcrop which is fun to get some sensational photos from.
Since discovering it, "European Beach" has recently become one of my frequent visitor's favorites!

FACILITIES:
There are no facilities at this beach park but it's within walking distance of Laie village and shopping center.
LIFEGUARDS:
None.
DIRECTIONS:
Hukilau Beach Park is centrally located at the north end of Laie village, just past the shopping center (Foodland, etc.) if you're headed north. Coming from the north, it's on the ocean side right as you enter the village.
PARKING:
There is ample parking in the beach park lot but please note it is closed on Sundays. If it's closed, you can find alternative parking at the shopping center or along a side road. Also, please make a note of the daily closing time - as at all beach park lots on Oahu - so you don't get locked in.
BUS:
There are actually 4 bus stops which service this beach - starting from the south - Hale Laa, Lanihuli Street, Wahinepee Street or Naniloa Loop/Laie Temple. If you're not sure, just jump off at any stop in Laie Village between the shopping center (Foodland, etc.) and the Temple. Bus #60 or #88A
FOOD & DRINK NEARBY:
This is one of the few beaches on Oahu within walking distance of several places to eat. Please See "Deserted Island Beach with Stunning Views" for many different options.
As Laie is a predominantly Mormon community, the shopping center - including all restaurants and Foodland - are closed on Sundays. They also don't serve any alcohol at this Foodland at any time, so if you fancy a beer or a cocktail on the beach, you'll need to stock up before getting to Laie. "
