"The Miradouro da Vista do Rei, one of the most famous viewpoints in São Miguel, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the iconic Sete Cidades lakes.
From this elevated spot, visitors can admire the striking contrast between the Lagoa Azul (“Blue Lagoon”) and Lagoa Verde (“Green Lagoon”), surrounded by lush green hills and volcanic craters.
The viewpoint gets its name, “King’s View,” from a visit by King Carlos I of Portugal in 1901.
Nearby, the abandoned Monte Palace Hotel adds a mysterious touch to the landscape, making it a favorite spot for photographers.
Whether you’re visiting on a clear day for the best colors or catching the mist rolling over the crater, Miradouro da Vista do Rei is an unmissable stop to experience the natural beauty of the island."

"It's hard to say whether the Miradouro da Vista do Rei (King's View) or the Miradouro da Boca do Inferno (Boca do Inferno Viewpoint) has a better view. You definitely need to compare the two. Unlike the Miradouro da Boca do Inferno, which requires a 1.6-mile out-and-back hike, the Miradouro da Vista do Rei is an easy-to-reach observation deck. It looks down into the Sete Cidades caldera and its twin lakes from the southwest. The Atlantic Ocean is still in the distance. The vibrant shades of blue and green are mesmerizing. It's hard to stop taking pictures at this gorgeous spot.
While you're here, don't miss the abandoned Monte Palace Hotel. It's right behind you."
