Five adventurous days in Sao Miguel, Azores
Before we get started:
There is one link that you'll find super useful for your time in the Azores: a webcam that will show you the conditions at many of the viewpoints you'll be driving to. The islands are tropical and conditions change quickly, meaning you'll want to keep an eye on this site and be ready to change plans if your desired view is cloudy. When I was there in May, I found that afternoons were often clearer than the mornings. The good news is that nothing on the island is too far from anything else, so it's pretty easy to pivot to another activity and plan to come back to your view later!
Now let's jump into the itinerary!
Day 1
Arrive in Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores and the main hub of your time in Sao Miguel. A quaint, cobblestoned town, Ponta Delgada has a surprising amount of things to do and see. You'll want to rent a car from the airport as you'll be driving all around the island during the next few days - but don't worry, from tip to tip, Sao Miguel is only about a 1 hour 20 minute drive, so you'll never be in the car for too long.
