Cais da Ribeira

As old as the city itself, the Ribeira area is the promenade close to the Douro River, with its colourful century-old houses and the marvellous open views to the river, D. Luis I Bridge and the sister town of Vila Nova de Gaia 

This waterfront promenade is a perfect place to soak in the local culture, enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine, and take in the breathtaking views of the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge. 

Sidewalk cafes, buskers, and tents full of artisan wares share space in this riverside passageway that stretches for blocks. A carnival atmosphere prevails.
