Fancy a weekend get away? Don't want to fly for ages to get there? Dublin could be the answer for you! This is a 24hr itinerary with a few extra suggestions of places to go if you have more time. 

24hrs in Dublin

Ireland is my favorite country in Europe, I can't lie. Having had the opportunity to travel a lot around the "Emerald Isle," I can assure you that the rainy days are not too bad (LoL). In reality, it doesn't rain that much. 

Dublin, (Átha Cliath in Irish language), Ireland's capital, is a lively and bustling city filled with people from all over the world. You'll encounter and hear different nationalities around, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Dublin boasts a rich and captivating history that spans over a thousand years. The 18th century marked a golden era for the city as it thrived culturally and economically. The Georgian architecture and literary heritage flourished during this time, with renowned figures like Jonathan Swift and Oscar Wilde leaving a lasting mark.

Playing a significant role in the struggle for Irish independence during the 20th century, Dublin witnessed pivotal events such as the 1916 Easter Rising that shaped the nation's destiny. Today, the city seamlessly blends its historical charm with modern vibrancy, making it a must-visit destination for those eager to explore Ireland's intriguing past.

In this guide, you'll find recommendations to fill up at least 4 days of your visit. Here, the focus is more on the not-so-well-advertised experiences because, for the "big" attractions, you can easily find recommendations anywhere.

4 Irish Castle Stay

You can take a road trip around Ireland for as long as you want to but this is the way to do it in a week! This is just the Republic of Ireland, and does not include Northern Ireland. For that, I would add on a few days and go up to Belfast. 

I don't think you are doing Ireland justice if you only stay in Dublin, the coast and the small towns made the trip in my opinion!

I found out which attractions are worth the entry fee, which landmarks can be admired from the outside, skyline views, and the finest local pubs and restaurants. From cozy pubs to lively eateries, I’ve got you covered!

Temple Bar

Temple Bar is a busy riverside neighbourhood, spread over cobbled pedestrian lanes. Crowded pubs host live folk music and DJ sets, and diners pack restaurants serving Asian, American and Irish cuisine. Quirky boutiques stock clothes and crafts by local designers. The National Photographic Archive highlights Ireland’s past, while the Project Arts Centre and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios shows contemporary art.

The heart of St. Patrick's Day festivities in Dublin. Navigating the crowded city streets is an absolute nightmare during the holiday--especially with many of the many routes closed for the National St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

To avoid a frustrating commute, be sure to book accommodations in Temple Bar so you can reach every spot on your itinerary by foot!  

Temple Bar is a lively and iconic cultural quarter renowned for its vibrant atmosphere. Lined with cobblestone streets, this historic area is a hub of creativity, offering an eclectic mix of pubs, galleries, theaters, and street performers.

Temple Bar is a neighborhood within Dublin that has a lot of fun nightlife. There is also the famous bar that is called "The Temple Bar" which I also highly recommend. A really fun area with a lot of great restaurants and bars. 

This is a classic tourist attraction, even if you only go for the Instagram picture it is still a great place to try out just to say you went! Enjoy a pint of Guinness with your new friends from all over Europe.

"Temple Bar dates from 1707. It was named after Sir William Temple (1554-1629). A Bar was a term for a walkway by a river, the walkway by the Liffey used by the Temple family was thus called Temple Bar."

Temple Bar est l'un des quartiers les plus anciens et emblématiques de Dublin. On y trouve des pubs, restaurants et de l'ambiance à n'importe quelle heure.


Personally I suggest visiting this iconic and tourist site but stopping for a drink in one of the nearby pubs; less crowded and generally cheaper.
