This is a guide to an Island hopping itinerary of: Athens-Andros-Syros-Naxos-Paros

This guide will cover how to island hop through 4 incredible Greek Islands.  It will cover things to do, places to eat, how to get around, and where to stay in each place.  I have personally been to every single place included in this guide (except one! you'll see). These islands are a bit more off the beaten path than the usual tourist trail of Mykonos and Santorini.  They are WELL worth visiting and should be on every travelers list!  I believe you will find this guide extremely helpful and it will make your island hopping trip a breeze!  I have listed personal descriptions about every single thing listed to give you a clearer idea of what to expect.

The Ultimate Greece 2-3 Week Travel Guide

This is a guide for Athens and Alimos Greece.  If you are not familiar with Alimos (I wasn't either), it is a seaside town on the coast and is very close to Athens.  It makes for a great city break from the heat of Athens.  If you are heading to the Greek Islands for the summer it's very likely you'll pass through Athens.  There is a wealth of things to do here.  We've been a few times now and I still have things on my list that I'd like to see and do in future trips.  

This guide will cover all of the things that I have personally done, seen, and eaten in Athens.  *Including a mini street food our that we personally created and did!  It will also cover things I have researched that sound amazing and that I wish to do on future trips.  

Why Athens?

Personally I find Athens to be an incredible city.  Not everyone wants to spend time in Athens, but we really enjoyed Athens and found it had a lot to offer.  There are lots of great things to do and see here and so much history. We have visited twice so this guide for Athens will include quite a bit.  You can pick and choose what you would find most enjoyable for a day or two here at the beginning and possibly also the end of your trip. 

 I am going to divide this Athens portion into 2 sections. The first will be for more of the heart of Athens and first timers or people who love all of the main and major things in the city. We also created our own mini street food tour here and that is included as well.

  The second section is with a base in Alimos.  This is likely for people who have already been to Athens and have seen all of the history and main sites.  Or for people who just don't care and would rather beach and chill during their day or two in Athens.

Here’s our best advice and favorite things to do in Athens, Milos and Santorini all within 10 days.

- We had great experiences on the ferries, this is not always the story for others, be prepared for motion sickness and consider an upgrade to Platinum seating 
- Do not flush toilet paper in the toilets 
- Kalimera means good day, good morning
- Greeks are very kind, be kind to them back

Monastiraki Square

Monastiraki Square is a lively and historic area in the heart of Athens, known for its bustling markets and charming cafes. The square is surrounded by neoclassical buildings and offers stunning views of the Acropolis. It's a popular spot for both tourists and locals alike, offering a vibrant atmosphere and a taste of authentic Greek culture.

Check out the ancient church in Monastiraki Square known as the Church of the Pantanassa or the Church of Agia Moni. It is a Byzantine church dating back to the 10th century, known for its beautiful frescoes and historic significance. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary and is one of the oldest churches in Athens. It's a fascinating example of Byzantine architecture and provides a glimpse into the city's rich religious and cultural heritage.

Monastiraki Square is such a fun area to explore and see local life in action. This is one of the most vibrant places in Athens. I would recommend staying in this area. You will be walking distance to a TON of shops, restaurants, and the famous Monastiraki Market. This will be close to some of the ruins such as the library. You can walk to all the ruins from here but some are further away. 

Exit the metro station into Monastiraki Square. Turn right toward Hadrian's Library, then right again down a pedestrian lane. Follow this about a block next to restaurants. You will come to the entrance to the Athenian Agora on your left.

One of the main 3 squares in Athens. Find a rooftop bar/restaurant around this area and people watch and have incredible views of the Acropolis.
