"Perched on the promontory at the edge of town for the best views over the rooftops and up the coastline, this gorgeous old cloister was reportedly founded in 1222 by St. Francis himself. Its surprisingly spacious monastic cells have been converted into appropriately spare but discreetly elegant rooms, which at these rates, it could stand an upgrade. Still, all come with sea views, hand-painted tile floors, a mix of antiques and modern functional furnishings, whitewashed walls, and vaulted ceilings. The hotel features a few amenities the old monks never dreamed of, including a private sundeck and saltwater pool down by the seaside and two restaurants with panoramic views (one atop a 15th-century Saracen watchtower, which doubles as a bar and nightclub) that help make up for the lackluster food. The center of Amalfi is just a 5 minute walk away.
For this part of the world, it’s relatively reasonably priced.
Room to Book: The Torre Suite, installed in an ancient tower that once guarded against pirate attacks, has been the Arabian Nights–tinged room of choice for guests like Bogart, Bergman, and Roberto Rossellini."

This historic hotel was once a convent dating back to the 13th century and the guest rooms still surround the ancient courtyard. The hotel's rich history and ancient architecture create a charming and peaceful atmosphere for guests to enjoy.
The outdoor pool offers a perfect spot to soak up the sun while overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Plus, the hotel's location is unbeatable - right in the heart of Amalfi and just steps away from the town's famous cathedral."

"This hotel used to be a convent, and they made it into a hotel. I highly recommend the restaurant here. Definitely make reservations. The restaurant has a beautiful view. It's almost like a castle that sits on the edge of a rock on the coast."
