Livio Colapinto
"One of the oldest trattorias with a terrace on Lake Como, Trattoria del Porto near the pier in Careno, is an informal but charming place. It can be reached by boat or by descending the steep stairs that cross the small, ancient village from the provincial road. At one of the few tables on the beautiful terrace, right on the lake, you can enjoy simple homemade cuisine, mostly based on lake fish: creamy risotto, perch, and misultin, a local white fish that’s dried in salt and placed underweight all winter. I swear it’s delicious. A two-brother family affair where the service is nice and attentive and the price is very reasonable - which on Lake Como is uncommon. Bonus tip: ask the owners to borrow the keys to a nearby church, San Martino, for an extra tourist experience reserved only for their customers."

"Informal family-run trattoria near the pier in Careno serving homemade, traditional fare like creamy risotto, polenta, perch, and misultin. Tip: ask the owners for the keys to San Martino church nearby, an off the beaten path experience reserved only for their customers. "

"Located in Varenna, this unpretentious trattoria offers simple, hearty Italian dishes. With pizzas starting at €8 and pasta dishes at around €10-12, this is a great option for a delicious yet affordable meal right by the water."
