"It is a little hard to find because it is a converted subway station near downtown Brooklyn. Walking down the stairs you are transported through different eras of public transportation.
The last exhibit is the largest collection of vintage subway cars in the world, including cars from throughout NYC history. There is a fun scavenger hunt for the kids, but we had a lot of fun looking at old commercial posters advocating everything from the new type of cigarettes to a Disney on Ice show!
Plan on spending three hours there if you want to really soak it in. It’s $10 a person, so definitely worth it for the sheer amount of information. Also be warned there is limited air conditioning, so going in the summer will be very hot (we learned that the hard way!)

"Straddling the border of Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn, this may be my favorite museum in all of New York City that gets little attention. You know it's getting real, when you enter by walking down the stairs to an old subway station. The exhibits show you a great history of NYC mass-transit (not just the subway system). The jewel of the whole museum is in the basement where you get to board old subway cars, from different eras. They even have the ads up from those time periods. It feels like time travel. Only open Thursday through Sunday, admission is $10. Pre-book a ticket in advance they sell out! "
