Saint Demetrius Cathedral

"The Cathedral of Saint Demetrius was built in 1830, during the period of the Ottoman Empire. Its construction was permitted as part of a series of concessions that the Ottomans made to the Orthodox Christian communities in the Balkans, especially during the 19th century, when tensions between different ethnic and religious groups were growing. The cathedral was dedicated to Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki, a martyr and popular saint of the Orthodox Church, who is widely venerated in the Balkans.
