"St. Salvator Church (Kostel sv. Salvátora) is a prominent landmark within the Klementinum complex, the largest and most historic group of buildings in Prague's Old Town. Located at one end of Charles Bridge, it serves as a gateway to the Old Town. Recognized as one of the finest examples of early Baroque architecture in Prague, St. Salvator was initially constructed in the Gothic style by the Jesuits between 1578 and 1601. Significant Baroque enhancements were made from 1649 to 1654 under the guidance of notable architects Carlo Lurago, Francesco Caratti, and František Kanka. The church features an impressive façade adorned with sandstone sculptures of saints by Jan Jiří Bendl. A niche in the wall showcases a sculpture of the Virgin Mary. Inside, the church's grand interior is surprisingly spacious, featuring three aisles with galleries, culminating in a stunning dome embellished with frescoes. St. Salvator is home to two magnificent organs, which are played during Mass and classical music concerts. Interestingly, the crypt contains the remains of Father Koniáš, known as the "destroyer of Czech books," alongside Bohuslav Balbín, the "defender of the Czech language," embodying a paradox of the Jesuit Order's influence in Bohemia.
