"Danish artist Thomas Dambo is known for installing huge whimsical troll sculptures, built from recycled wood, in natural spaces around the world. His Isak Heartstone troll in Breckenridge is an absolute treasure! If you’re an art lover, or just enjoy whimsical, fun experiences, this is a must-visit. This trail is very short, and is a one-way loop to accommodate the volume of visitors. It’s an easy and flat stroll through the woods. However, there are many options for extending your visit into a longer experience: If you’re visiting with children, there’s an incredible train-themed park located across the parking lot, complete with real historic train cars and interpretive materials, as well as a train themed playground. Isak is just as charming in the summer and winter -Good to know: This trail is super popular, and to facilitate the visitors, it is a one-way loop. Be sure to follow the signs. -Add-ons: There are several trails you can jump on from this same trailhead. None of them are going to feel “wilderness-ey”, because they are right in the heart of Breckenridge. But they’re beautiful and often feature forest-embedded art exhibits. Try the LIttle Mountain Trail or the Southside & Illinois Creek Loop.
