Trippy Tour Guide
"Add in the text from the video in the previous stop here There are two adorable pink houses on the left and in between them a stone house. The stone house belonged to a military historian who spent his whole life writing about Napoleon. The second pink house where it says "Maison Rose" was made famous by a local painter named Utrillo, making it one of the most iconic scenes of Montmartre. Then it was bought by someone who was friends with famous singers and so they often patronized it. Singers like Edith Piaf, Aznavour and Jacques Brel came here frequently. Before them author Albert Camus was also a fan. I think they had good taste, this is a good place to stop for lunch on a sunny day! The architecture of this house hasn't changed since the second world war, but in 1970 the new owner decided to paint it white. She soon changed her mind as the little pink house painted white was a total flop! It became a fixture of artistic bohemian life in Montmartre, boasting visitors such as Salvador Dali, Amedeo Modigliani, and Maurice Utrillo. Check out the street diagonally opposite the pink house - Rue Cortot Painter Suzanne Valaton lived on this street. She was a circus acrobat but an injury forced her to quit. She was beautiful and posed for Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and many others. Then she decided to give painting a try. Edgar Degas encouraged her and bought her some of her first painting supplies. Within a few years, her works had become her primary source of income. She was the mother of Utrillo who painted the pink house we saw earlier. She was the first woman admitted into the National Beaux-Arts Academy in France. She died at age 73 surrounded by her friends Picasso, Derain and Braque. Directions at the. end - Turn left onto Rue des Saules"
"This place is absolutely iconic to look at and you will almost never see it without people taking photos of it or with it. It is worth going inside as it is quite charming. I recommend brunch as it is a 3 course and really nice. You can make a reservation and I don't think you'd have much luck walking in. A bonus note : they have a great prosecco "
"There are many reasons this cafe is charming: the cobblestone road and ivy-covered walls leading up to the building, the adorable green trim, even the lamp post across the street. This cafe (along with many others in this guide) was frequently by Pablo Picasso and now serves traditional French food."
