"From Baroque masterpiece to Senate of the Kingdom. A visit to Palazzo Madama is an evocative journey through time: from the foundations of the Roman age to the medieval towers, up to the Baroque triumph of the Juvarrian staircase. In fact, the origins of the building date back to the Roman castrum, but the name comes from the royal madams Christina of France and Maria Giovanna Battista of Savoy-Nemours, promoters of the modernization project which culminated with the construction of the grand staircase and the elegant façade, the work of Philip Juvarra. In the 19th century, life at the court took over politics: Carlo Alberto installed the first Royal Senate there and it was here that the birth of the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed. Since 1934 it has housed the Civic Museum of Ancient Art. You can visit the rooms dedicated to the Gothic and the Renaissance, the main floor of the museum, the collection of glass and ceramics on the second floor, the Lapidarium, the Medieval Botanical Garden and the Panoramic Tower"
