What people say

"In the heart of Porto lies a hidden gem that transcends mere imagery—it's the Portuguese Centre of Photography, a sanctuary where the art of capturing moments unfolds in myriad forms. Housed within the walls of a former prison, this cultural enclave invites visitors to traverse through time and perspective, revealing the power of photography as both an art form and a historical record. Approaching the Portuguese Centre of Photography, one is greeted by the imposing façade of its storied past, where the echoes of incarcerated souls seem to whisper tales of transformation. Within these walls, however, lies a different narrative—a celebration of light, shadow, and the boundless creativity of human expression. Inside, the Portuguese Centre of Photography unveils its treasures—a curated collection that spans epochs and emotions, from the evocative portraits of yesteryears to the bold experimentation of contemporary visionaries. Beyond its static displays, the Centre pulsates with life, hosting workshops, exhibitions, and collaborations that ignite conversations and spark inspiration. It's a testament to the enduring allure of photography, where each click of the shutter captures not just an image, but a fragment of our shared humanity."

"Housed in a former prison, the Centro Portugûes de Fotografia (Portuguese Photography Center) is a hidden gem in the center of Porto. Situated next to Clerigos Tower and not far from the extremely popular Livraria Lello bookstore, CPF is (in my humble opinion) one of the most underrated attractions in Porto. There is a MASSIVE exhibit of cameras and photographic equipment (some over 100 years old!). And in addition to the two permanent exhibits, the museum hosts a new temporary exhibit each month, so there is always something new to experience. Even if you are short on time in the city, this beautiful building is worth an hour or so to visit. And the best part: it’s free to enter! Maybe it’s the photography nerd in me, but this is truly one of my favorite places in Porto! ⭐️ Tip: This is a great activity on a rainy day in Porto!"
"Visit the museum for photography, which was previously a prison. The museum is dedicated to the art of photography with different temporary exhibitions. Entrance is free and it could take you about 1 or 2 hours to wonder around. "

Porto is my favorite city in Portugal (and quite possibly my favorite city in Europe). I've spent over 3 months here in the last two years, which has given me the unique opportunity to fully experience all Porto has to offer. But I also know what it's like to only have two or three days to try to see & do it all, and why I have created this guide for you. I've highlighted all the best spots, and added in some local favorites, to help you maximize your time in this incredibly vibrant city! Rather than have a rigid, scheduled checklist of places, I've tried to group locations together that would make sense if walking around the city. If you start the day where I've suggested, you'll have many options along the way from start to finish. Use the map icon to toggle between the guide and the map, or use the directions tab in each location description to link you to directly to Google maps. This guide includes: 🔹Suggested sites and activities for 3 days in Porto, thoughtfully & geographically grouped together to help maximize your time in the city. 🔹A mix of the "typical" spots to see, as well as some less-traveled places to add something different & unique to your experience. 🔹Tips and insights given are from my own personal experiences from spending over 3 months in this amazing city. This is not just a generic laundry list of an itinerary! And obviously you'll take lunch, wine (!!) and dinner breaks along the way. I didn't include restaurant options here, as I have an entire guide on just food! You will definitely want to check it out, so I'll link it below! ⬇️
