"Fotografiska is a renowned center for contemporary photography located in the Södermalm district of Stockholm, Sweden. Established by brothers Jan and Per Broman, it opened its doors on May 21, 2010. In March 2021, Fotografiska merged with NeueHouse and is now operated by Yoram Roth and Josh Wyatt under the parent company CultureWorks. The center occupies a historic building at Stadsgården, originally a customs house dating back to 1906. The structure, designed by Ferdinand Boberg in the Art Nouveau style, is recognized for its cultural significance and offers a variety of amenities typical of a museum, including exhibit spaces, a bistro, café, bar, conference rooms, a museum shop, gallery, and event spaces. Fotografiska attracts over 500,000 visitors each year, making it a prominent destination for photography enthusiasts and tourists alike. Throughout its history, Fotografiska has hosted a range of notable exhibitions featuring world-renowned photographers. Some of the standout shows include "Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer's Life," which ran from May 21 to September 19, 2010; "Gus Van Sant: One Step Big Shot," from November 9 to December 5, 2010; and "Robert Mapplethorpe: Retrospective," which took place from June 17 to October 3, 2011. These exhibitions, among others, showcase the center's commitment to promoting contemporary photography and engaging with both established and emerging artists."
