"*** 1 of the top 5 things to do in Iceland*** Going on a glacier hike is a must do in Iceland and Vatnajokull is the biggest and most impressive glacier in Iceland, and one of the largest in the world. Glaciers are shrinking at an alarming rate across the world and Vatnajokull is no different, in just 30 years it has lost over 150 square miles to climate change. Now will never be a better time to go see it, because it won't be as grand as it was today ever again! There are two tour options I recommend- a full day version with just 2-4 participants (highly recommend) or a small group version of up to 15people which is just 5 hours. Being on the glacier itself you get to see and feel ice up close in it's impressive glory and learn facts about how it was formed and what's happening to it now climate change has had an impact. It's an exciting and educational experience and I personally LOVED it and so did everyone I know that's done it. This will absolutely be one of your trip highlights. Top tip: Get there 30 minutes early to kit up, try and be ready to be in the first group that goes up so no one else is in front of you, this means you'll get incredible photos without other people and there will be no waiting to pass anyone else. Do: wear layers and take Waterproofs- Icelands weather can be changeable. "

"If you want to understand why Iceland is called the land of fire and ice, just visit Vatnajökull National Park. Vatnajökull, established in 2008, is one of the country's three national parks. It's absolutely massive. It's the second-largest national park in Europe. It covers about 14 percent of the island. It crosses into East Iceland, South Iceland, and the Highland. It's was also named a World Heritage Site a few years ago. Within the park, you'll find Europe's largest glacier outside of the Arctic (Vatnajökull) and active volcanoes (Bárðarbunga, Grímsvötn). Deep canyons, high mountain ridges, glacial lakes and rivers, mighty waterfalls, and wide wetlands are abundant, as well. Wild reindeer live here. So do lots of birds. You can go hiking, horseback riding, ice climbing, Jeep touring, kayaking, snowmobiling, and, of course, northern lights hunting around Vatnajökull. The only thing you can't possibly do is see it all."

" Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland, It's both stunning to look at afar and to explore. You will see different "tongues" of this glacier throughout your drive. There are plenty of hikes and tour operators that offer trips on the glacier. Fun fact: a Game of Thrones filming location -scenes beyond the wall in season two."
