"🇮🇸 If you've seen any photos of Vik, it probably included this adorable red-roofed church set atop the highest point in the village.
📸 This is a photography spot… if you’re not into taking pictures, you can admire the church from a distance and move on!
🚗 Free parking up around the church... try to park away from the building to keep your car out of the photo.
📸 PHOTOGRAPHY NOTES:
👉 The prominent and photogenic church can be captured from many spots.
😊 My favourites:
🏖️ From the black sand beach (next stop) with the dramatic moss covered mountains in the background.
👆 Walk further up the hill from the parking lot to get shots with the church and the sea-stacks in the distance.
💜 If you visit in June & July, the area around the church will be flooded with purple lupine."

"Fifteen minutes. That's how long the people in Vík believe you have to make your way up to Vík i Myrdal Church if Katla, the nearby active volcano, erupts and causes flashing flooding as it melts Mýrdalsjökull, the glacier that sits atop it. Fifteen minutes. No worries, though.
Vík i Myrdal Church sits on a hill overlooking the southernmost village on the mainland of Iceland. The white church with a red roof was built in 1929. You can see all of Vík, including its black-sand beach and Reynisdrangar (the basalt sea stacks), from here. The Lutheran church is a popular spot for weddings. It's also one of the most-photographed churches in the country."

"Vík í Mýrdal Church, also sometimes called Reyniskirkja Church, is a picturesque white church with a red roof that graces the southernmost village in Iceland, Vík í Mýrdal . More than just a religious landmark, it stands as a symbol of Icelandic resilience and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Built in 1929, Vík í Mýrdal Church stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Icelandic people. The village of Vík has faced numerous challenges throughout history, including volcanic eruptions and harsh weather conditions. The church serves as a beacon of hope and a symbol of the community's strength.
