" The Opyš viewpoint near Prague Castle offers a stunning panorama of the city and is historically significant. In the past, a cannon fired at noon from this location, allowing locals to set their clocks accurately. Visitors can reach this viewpoint through various paths, including the eastern gate of the castle, the Old Castle Steps, the Castle's Southern Gardens (seasonally), or via Na Opyši street from Klárov. The term "Opyš" refers to a geomorphological feature typically found at the end of a ridge, offering scenic views. This name was first recorded in relation to the area during the Middle Ages, according to architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš. Just a short walk from the viewpoint is Plečnik's flagpole, a gift from Slovenia during an exhibition in 1996, with the original flagpole located in Ljubljana. Additionally, nearby is Klára's house, a classicist building that once housed the founder of a blind institution. Today, it serves as residential apartments for employees of the president's office, alongside a glass booth for police surveillance to deter pickpockets."
