"The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord, located at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in the Vinohrady district of Prague, is a remarkable Roman Catholic church designed by Slovene architect Jože Plečnik. Constructed between 1929 and 1932, the church reflects Plečnik's inspiration drawn from early Christian and ancient architectural forms. This church was part of a broader effort to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of St. Wenceslas's death, alongside the completion of St. Vitus Cathedral. Notably, it stands as one of the most significant religious buildings in the Czech Republic from the 20th century. Its striking features include a towering wall that reaches 42 meters, adorned with a massive glazed clock, which at 7.6 meters in diameter is the largest in the country. Inside, visitors can admire the elegant white marble altar, a gilded figure of Christ standing three meters tall, and six statues representing the patrons of Bohemia. The church also boasts a spacious chapel in its basement with a beautifully crafted wooden caisson ceiling. During World War II, the church's six bells were repurposed for arms manufacturing, but in 1992, two replicas were returned. Since 2010, the church has been designated as a national cultural monument, underscoring its historical and architectural significance."
