"Rather discreet compared to other monuments, the Church of the Annunciation known as Sainte Rita, located in the heart of the bustling district of old Nice, is one of the oldest in the city.
Behind its discreet facade, the Church of the Annunciation known as Saint Rita hides many secrets. In contrast to the simplicity of its exterior, the interior is decorated in the baroque art style and has numerous elements testifying to great wealth. Among them, sublime luxurious ornaments and period paintings dazzle with their beauty and originality.
The church consists of a rectangular central nave decorated with incredible frescoes. It is surrounded by six side chapels. One of them is entirely dedicated to Saint Rita herself, an Italian nun beatified by Pope Urban VIII and nicknamed the Saint of Desperate Causes. The others honor other deities such as Saint Peter, Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Saint Erasmus. Certainly less popular than its famous neighbors like Sainte Réparate just a stone's throw away, the Church of the Annunciation in Nice is a real joy to visit during a stroll through the streets of the old town. It has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1942."
