"Absolutely unmissable with breathtaking views.
Bluff Knoll is one of the peaks in the Stirling Range National Park being 1095m above sea level. ⛰️
When you’re down in Albany, this is a must-do hike for everyone. Depending on the hiker that you are - begin the hike as early as 4am for sunrise, or on a beautiful morning to soak in the sunshine. No matter if you’re an afternoon type of person either, and enjoy the warmth of the late morning and afternoon sun. Just don’t forget to bring your sunscreen. ☀️
It is an approximate 3 to 4 hour round-trip spanning over a 6.8km return. You may spot some little reptiles skittering across here and there particularly in the heat of summer!
For winter trekkers, you might get lucky and experience a bit of snow, though many people hike in the early dawn across all seasons to catch the sunrise at the top. I know groups of friends who began as early as 4 in the morning. If you do so, make sure you’re thoroughly prepared with headlamps, proper footwear and appropriate clothing. As it will be almost pitch black on your way up, even with torches I recommend giving yourself a little more time to hike the mountain. If you’re wanting to catch the sunrise, make sure you plan your timing depending on which season you plan to do it in.
If you’re beginning in the morning when the sun's up, lace up your shoes and enjoy expansive views all the way to the top. It’s a well paved hike equipped with steps all along your way up. Some of the steps can get a quite steep around some areas, so do watch your step and take regular breaks if you need it. If you have hiking poles, I would recommend bringing them just in case. I’ve seen hikers come down the mountain using large branches for support. 🥾
Lo and behold, the peak of the mountain. Where you can soak in all of the fruits of your hard work as you gaze out over the expansive horizon, if it’s a clear day with no clouds. On other days, you may be sitting above the clouds! Where the clouds roll over the horizon like a soft blanket and you feel like you’re on top of the world. Regardless, it’s a mesmerising sight. However, on some days the clouds may permeate the space like a fog. On these days, your view at the peak will be obscured. 🌤️
Another thing to note is that the weather there can change quickly! I climbed this mountain twice within a span of 2 weeks. The first time I had hiked to the peak, I was rewarded with gorgeous views with a clear sky, seeing the rolling hills and farmland. However there was a biting chill in the air and I couldn’t stay at the top for too long before climbing down. The second time I had reached, I was lucky enough to have the same amazing view. But this time there was no wind at all, and was feeling the heat from the climb up. I was able to hang around the top for a little longer to explore the top and capture more photos.
Even if you’re not up for a climb at the crack of dawn, I would recommend climbing early morning no later than 9am, so you can make your way back down by midday for a hearty lunch. As it bleeds into the afternoon, the heat of the afternoon sun can be quite harsh particularly in summer. However during the other seasons, it will be more bearable.
The drive to Bluff Knoll offers its own charm, with the chance of spotting emus and other wildlife along the way. 🦎
An absolute adventure to reconnect with nature, you’ll gain a memory of a lifetime!"

"It doesn't take hiking expert to hike this place but you definitely need to be somewhat in shape to be able to do this and not get injured.
Check weather forecast ahead of time as heavy rain will make the hike very dangerous.
Pay for a day pass (17 AUD) at the machine at the parking lot and put your ticket on the windshield.
Pack water and snacks for the hike. We also packed our own sandwich to have for lunch at the summit! "
