What people say

"Once upon a time, Umm Qais was known as Gadara. Originally founded around 300 BCE by (allegedly) Alexander the Great's troops as a Greek colony, the town became an important center of Greek and eventually Roman culture in the region. Umm Qais is unique to Jerash in that the ruins are older and more preserved than restored. While it may not be quite as impressive as some of the reconstructions in Jerash, it is one of the coolest sites for history buffs in Jordan just given how untouched the ruins have been over time. Great views are also a benefit, as well as convenient hikes into the Yarmouk Nature Reserve (see separate listing)"
YOLO Jordan
"Imagine visiting a place that was one of the cities of the Decapolis, planned with a Roman city layout, and after The Ottoman empire took it as a place to live in, and built The Ottoman village!! What a blend of history, and what are you still waiting for."
