What people say

"At the highest point of the Serra da Capelada, at 620 m above sea level, there is an old stone hut built in the 18th century. The Vixía Herbeira Herbeira sentry box is located on the road that links Cariño and Cabo Ortegal with the San Andrés de Teixido sanctuary, and can be accessed from the other side, starting from Cedeira and crossing San Andrés. At this point it marks the boundaries of the municipalities of Cariño and Cedeira. Specifically, the Vixía Herbeira Herbeira sentry box dates back to 1805, it was designed by the crown's engineers and built by the residents of the region. It was part of a series of constructions dedicated to coastal and maritime surveillance along the coast, as they were all located at strategic points for this mission. Examples of these are the neighbouring sentry boxes of O Limo and Candieira, A Casa da Vela, in Espasante and the one in Bares. The Herbeira Vixía sentry box is partly enclosed by a small stone wall. It is a small rectangular granite masonry hut measuring only 15 m2. Three windows and a chimney complete the ensemble. Its roof is also made of stone and has a barrel vault. Enough to house a small military detachment dedicated to coastal surveillance. In 2003 the sentry box and its surroundings were restored."
"Another stunning view point on the west coast in Galicia. Wide and far you see an infinite green landscape with cows and wind power plants but watch where you step because the cows´ poops are everywhere."
