"This is the winery that put Napa Valley on the map! Chateau Montelena's chardonnay beat the French in the blind tasting called the Judgment of Paris in 1976. Great wine can be produced outside of the Old World? Gasp!!! Yes, and we have Chateau Montelena to thank for opening that door to the New World! Pay homage to this great winery with an in-person visit! To do: -Take a picture in front of the famous, vine-covered facade of Chateau Montelena. -Stroll around the beautiful Jade Lake, complete with swans and (rentable) pagodas. - Visit the rear tasting room to see an encased bottle of the winning 1972 chardonnay. -And, of course, indulge in a fantastic wine tasting experience. "This winery is incredibly old and was one of the first wineries in the Napa area. It has some amazing history, including beautiful landscaping changes to the grounds, and chardonnays featured in old movies. The tastings are short but generous, and the setting is beautiful, be it outside overlooking the grounds or inside in the air conditioned cellar. "
