Things to do
The Petrified Forest
@grant-and-teresa
Step back in time and experience one of the most unique sites in the Napa Valley--a forest of fossilized redwoods caused by the explosion of Mt. Saint Helena 3.4 million years ago.
This is a great family-friendly, pet-friendly spot to visit. We've taken family and friends here on several occasions.
Here's what you need to know:
-It takes most people 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk the trail.
-It's a moderate walk, but it's best to wear comfortable shoes with good tread. Hiking shoes are ideal.
-Check the website for the latest hours, but as of this writing, it's open Thursday through Monday (10 a.m.- 5 p.m.)
-Yes, there are restrooms available.
-There is a small gift shop with some unique items for sale, like shark teeth and fossils.

The Grape Crusher Sculpture
@grant-and-teresa
This handsome hunk of metal is the largest cast sculpture west of the Mississippi! It stands 15 feet tall and weighs a whopping 6,000 pounds.
Why visit The Grape Crusher? It's free, iconic, super photogenic and the location on a hill will give you a fantastic view of the Napa Valley.
Pro tip: Try getting here at sunrise or sunset for that Golden Hour effect.

Old Faithful Geyser of California
@grant-and-teresa
Did you know that there's an Old Faithful Geyser in wine country? Now you do! The Old Faithful Geyser of Calistoga is one of our favorite places to visit in the Napa Valley.
The Old Faithful Geyser erupts every 15-30 minutes, according to the website. But in our experience, we had to wait as long as 40 minutes once. That's ok. It was well worth the wait.
For the price of admission, you get access to the Old Faithful property, which includes a small gift shop (with packaged snacks and bottled water), access to see the geyser, outdoor picnic and lounge areas, a museum with fun facts and a really cute farm with animals you can feed.
Local tip: Bring your lunch and a bottle of wine here for a picnic. It's a great place to bring a big group and just hang out. It's also pet friendly!

Oxbow Public Market
@grant-and-teresa
Oxbow Public Market is a great one-stop-shop for food, wine and shopping. It's located right next to the Napa River and is within a few blocks of downtown.
Oxbow has a dedicated parking lot, but there's also plenty of street parking available.
Local tip: Right next to Oxbow Public Market is a grassy open area called the Oxbow Commons. It's a great place to bring your dogs or throw a frisbee.
