What people say

"Through his long-term exposition, he characterizes the Portuguese dictatorial regime (1926-1974), its means of repression and oppression (censorship, police and political courts), the resistance of oppositions (semi-legal and clandestine), the struggle anti-colonial and the 25th of April 1974. It regularly promotes temporary exhibitions, around themes linked to its collection, with parallel programming, where the resistance of the past meets the defense of citizenship and human rights in the present. The Museum has a documentation center, where it provides specialized literature, carries out research activities, processes and shares a documentary archive and promotes a broad collection of testimonials from those who resisted the dictatorship. In addition to educational work with schools and the general public, other regular activities are promoted, such as guided visits, conversation cycles and cinema and debate sessions. Visitors can also see part of the structures of the building where the museum is housed and an archaeological display raised from its basement. Opened on April 25, 2015, the building's recovery and adaptation project was designed by architects Manuel Graça Dias and Egas José Vieira."
