What people say

"Gufufoss Waterfall is one of the biggest waterfalls in the eastern region of Iceland. It plunges 27 meters (89 feet) and is located along the road as you drive from Seyðisfjörður to Egilsstaðir, making it a convenient stop for those traveling between the two towns. The waterfall is east-facing, so if you visit in the morning, you'll get the best light for capturing photos, as the sun will be hanging just over the waterfall for most of the afternoon. The Gufufoss Waterfall hike is an easy one. There's a gravel path that leads down next to the river from the parking area. From there, you can follow the river upstream to get a closer look at the waterfall. Be aware that because of the spray, you might not be able to get right up to the edge. Gufufoss is one of 25 waterfalls cascading down the Fjarðará River, a popular spot for fishing in the region. "

"According to my Icelandic dictionary, the word “gufa” meant “vapor” or “steam” so if this translation was correct, then this would be the “Steam Falls”. As for getting to experience Gufufoss, there was a pullout pretty much right in front of the waterfall (see directions below). From there, we were able to go on a pretty short walk along the banks of the Fjarðará before getting right up to the spray zone of the waterfall. 15 minutes to explore."
" You can also take a lovely nature walk along the FJARÐARÁ RIVER, which leads to the Gufufoss waterfall. On the walk you will find raspberries, blueberries, small waterfalls and rich vegetation, this is also one of the points where a scene from the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" was filmed"
