"The Kinsky Palace, managed by the National Gallery in Prague since 1949, has a rich history that reflects the architectural evolution of the area. Constructed between 1755 and 1765, it was built on the foundations of three earlier houses with medieval origins, the southernmost of which dates back to 1363. The building incorporates remnants of a Romanesque structure from the 12th century, which is still visible in the basement.
Over the centuries, the palace underwent several renovations and expansions. Notably, after being owned by the Trčký and Příchovský families, Renaissance reconstructions transformed its appearance. The northern section of the palace was built in the 13th century, preserving elements like the early Gothic cross vaults in the cellars.
The two houses that formed the Kinsky Palace were united in 1508 and saw significant reconstruction in the late 16th century, including the addition of a balcony. By 1768, after ownership passed to František Oldřich Kinský, the palace achieved its final form, adorned with sculptures by artist I.F. Platzer.
In the 1830s, the palace expanded further with the incorporation of the adjacent northern house, retaining its Gothic cellars while undergoing classical modifications. The current complex consists of the main building, a left wing, a transverse wing, and additional structures along Týnská Street. The rear building, completed in 1838, features late classicist facades, and the courtyard, originally a farm, is marked by a preserved rectangular fountain."
