The city we call Genoa in English is Genova in Italian. This maritime city is the regional capital city of Liguria along Italy’s northern Mediterranean coastline, bordered by the Côte D'Azur of France and Monaco to the west, where the Alps meet the sea.

Why am I qualified to make this guide? 

I have now visited the Cinque Terre 4 times.  I have spent well over 2 full weeks within the 5 towns and I have visited most recently in 2023 and 2024 so I have a lot of current and up to date knowledge of the area.  I solo traveled here in 2023 and I also planned a vacation for 11 people in the Cinque Terre in 2024 so I am well versed in navigating the area.

Also if you are huge Disney Pixar fans, many of these towns helped inspire the movie Luca. Have fun exploring the cities to see what all you recognize from the movie. 

Prior to visiting Cinque Terre, we didn't do much research into the area. We spent most of our time exploring and discovering along the way. This guide is to help share all of the information we gathered from our trip to help make your experience just as enjoyable. 

A Weekend in Cinque Terre, Italy

Corniglia

Corniglia is the least known and the least visited of the five towns in Cinque Terre. People usually skip it, discouraged by the lack of a port and difficult accessibility; however, those who do come here usually fall in love with this little village and even claim it to be their favorite terra out of the five!

If I had to rank the 5 towns, Corniglia would be in the last position. But it has really good restaurants. If you come here by train you will have to climb the steps to the top so it's not for everyone.  Alternatively you can take a bus to the town. 

The smallest and least accessible village. To get there, you’ll need to tackle the Lardarina staircase with its 382 steps. Honestly, there's not much to see here. I'd recommend spending more time in Vernazza or Manarola.

Known for being perched high on a cliff, with views of the coastline without direct sea access - its has a quieter, and more secluded feel compared to the others

Be prepared for SO MANY STAIRS if you arrive here via the train. Steep incline to reach the city. Limited views of the water from the inner city spaces.

This is where we stayed for our visit to Cinque Terre. We loved it and would recommend anyone to stay here as they explore the other towns.
