What people say

"If you’re looking for something to do, a cute spot for lunch and an afternoon stroll, or want to discover more of Italy’s beauty without the crowds or bundles of tourists then a trip to Certaldo Alto should be added to your destinations to visit list. The town of Certaldo is in Val d’Elsa and Certaldo Alto is its Medieval walled centre, perched on a hill above the modern part of town. It is located about 35 kilometres south west of Florence, and can easily be reachable by car or train. Start your day by taking the funicular up to Certaldo Alto and have a coffee at a quaint cafe. Stroll through the town and discover the Palazzo Pretorio, with its magnificent facade. It was once the seat of the government and now houses contemporary art exhibits where modern works line its ancient frescoed walls. Then be sure to grab lunch with a gorgeous view, Ristorante L’Antica Fonte. After lunch, simply wander past the walled town into the hills a bit and catch an unbelievable sunset view surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. There are certain places that immediately grab you with their quaint beauty and stillness, and I for one, felt that warmness in Certaldo. Even on what seemed to be a relatively busier day in the quiet town, due to Halloween and it being an Italian holiday weekend, it was a breath of fresh air from the city life of Florence . This place is the perfect day trip to do if you want to explore off the beaten path Tuscany"

"This is one of the more untouched villages in Chianti. I live outside this town. Market day is Wednesday."
