Our Ultimate Guide to Rome - Do, Eat, Drink

St Maria Sopra Minerva Basilica

One of the major churches of the order of the Dominicans. The name derives from the fact that the first Christian church was built directly over the ruins or foundations of a temple dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Isis, which had been mistakenly attributed to the roman goddess Minerva. The church was built in the 14th and 15th century, and is home to some incredible relics, baroque style artworks, sculptures and much more.

Located near the Pantheon, this basilica is the only Gothic church in Rome. It houses the tomb of St. Catherine of Siena and features stunning artwork, including Michelangelo's statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Lavish Gothic church known for its medieval tombs, Michelangelo sculpture & elephant obelisk.

Named after a temple to Minerva, goddess of wisdom,  that once stood on the same spot. 

In the altar you will find the body of St Catherine of Siena
